Attention To Detail

Are small details trivial or important? In the building industry, attention to detail sets a construction company above the rest. Are small details trivial or minor in life?  In the building industry, it sets a home above the average construction project.   It’s the attention to details that makes a construction company unique and superior to the average.  Today, I wanted to dive a little deeper into what it means to have “attention to detail”.

Webster defines it as:

“Attention” is – “Observation, Notice”; consideration with a view to action.

“Details” are “a part of the whole” such as – the small elements that collectively constitute a work of art.

When someone pays attention to the details it means they are noticing and anticipating what will happen next and correcting things that would have been a problem before it becomes an issue.  You can imagine how important this is when building a home and a big reason why so many builders put an emphasis on this statement. So what does it take to really bring a custom detailed touch to a project?

Keeping a close eye on a project throughout the whole process is the only way to take care of all the details. This process starts with the building plans and continues with the precision of executing every detail in every phase of construction.

A contractor is up to the task when they are actively present on the job site. However, in today’s market contractors are in a high demand and finding the balance of serving their clients and family can be challenging.

When searching for a builder one should not only look for integrity and experience but for one who truly will devote the time to your project. This kind of attention comes from years of studying building plans and the experience of building.

Starting with the architect all the way through the punch list. One example would be studying and understanding all the components of the plans and using the contractor’s knowledge to ensure that the customer’s wants and desires are being met while staying within their budget.

When a builder is really taking care of the details, it means that they are actively present on their job sites.  The reason this is an issue that needs to be brought up is because there is currently a high demand for builders and it can be quite easy to get overwhelmed. There is a fine balance between making a living and overwhelming oneself that will be unique to all builders, but nevertheless needs to be found because when it is exceeded the quality and attention to detail will be the first to go.

In today’s market, with all the building that is happening, it is easy for a builder to overextend themselves.  This can be a detriment to the quality of the project. So, be sure to find yourself a builder that has experience and isn’t too busy.  I believe this principle of paying attention to details is the foundation of being a quality company.

Habitat for Humanity

As I reflect on how meaningful it is to have a home to call my own, I felt compelled to share with you a little about a wonderful organization who has made it their mission to provide people with a place to call home, called Habitat for Humanity.

If you have not heard about Habitat for Humanity I would be super surprised. They are worldwide and, it seems, in every town across the US. Habitat for Humanity started with a community farm near Americus, Georgia by a farmer and biblical scholar named Clarence Jordan. To find out more about this great organization visit habitat.org

Habitat for Humanity has served 9.8 million people in 70 countries and over 1400 communities in the U.S. Their mission is “Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.” Can you believe that this not-for-profit organization can provide such provision and touch!? Where their testimony truly impresses is the extent of the services they offer and the many branches within the company.

Just to point out a few:

Home building; neighborhood revitalization; financial classes; disaster response; merchandise stores; Community support options; many volunteer programs

DreamWood Builders (DWB) first made the connection to this great organization back in 2012 when Caleb donated his time in helping a family build their first home. He has also donated several hours of his time working in their ReStores, receiving donations and serving those purchasing goods. Caleb also donated his truck to the nonprofit in 2015.

In 2017 DWB purchased a home in Fair Oaks Ranch that became their first home flip as a company. Along with the house came a car that was left by the previous owners, providing the opportunity to participate in HH’s donation car program. Their contact, Don, was a complete joy and truly made the donation opportunity seamless and enjoyable.

As a company, DWB plans to continue interactions and efforts with Habitat for Humanity through goods donations, man power in building, and especially advocating for the work that they provide to those in need. We have a duty as a nation to help each other in our own unique way. Not everyone has the same need which makes giving so heavenly. If you have a desire to find out more about this particular organization please check out their web page www.habitat.org. Jesus instructs us to Love our neighbors as ourselves and HH provides opportunities to do just that.
